I went into this book for the premise and stayed for the emotional damage. The idea of a woman with only days left to live trying to solve her own attempted murder is instantly gripping, and Holly Jackson absolutely leans into that urgency. From the very first chapters, there’s this constant ticking clock that made it hard for me to put the book down — every conversation, every clue feels heavy because Jet literally doesn’t have time to waste. Jet is… a lot. She’s sharp, sarcastic, and sometimes frustrating, but honestly that made her feel real to me. She doesn’t suddenly become saintly just because she’s dying, and I appreciated that. At times her voice did feel younger than her age, but I didn’t mind — it added to the sense that she’s clinging to life with humor and defiance rather than grace. What really worked for me was the emotional side of the story. The relationships — especially with Billy — added so much heart, and the betrayal at the center of the mystery genuinely hurt. This isn’t just a “who did it” thriller; it’s about resentment, privilege, unfinished business, and how little time it can take for everything to fall apart. The pacing wasn’t perfect, and I did feel like a few moments dragged or became slightly chaotic toward the end, but the payoff was worth it. The ending hit me harder than I expected — not just because of what happens, but because of what it means. Overall, this was intense, sad, and gripping in a way that stuck with me after I finished. If you like thrillers with emotional weight and morally messy characters, this one is absolutely worth the read.
