I was convinced this would be a 5-star-book. Why did I struggle to enjoy it so much? Am I the problem? Or did Lauren suddenly rediscover how to write meh books? It’s not that it was bad. In theory, it’s everything I love and adore. And it was mostly well written and all. But for some reason I never really connected to the characters or grew attached and that hindered me from really enjoying it. At no point was I super eager to continue the story or got emotional over anything that happened. I was mostly bored and not really interested. And we had many many pages were nothinggggg really happened. No development. This book has 580 pages, but actual plot for only 30% of that. It’s got a lot of scenes that felt like filler. They were sweet moments or mildly entertaining. But not necessary and didn’t push forward the sorry. Maybe if it was cut shorter, 400 pages less would have done the job just as well. But then on the other hand the last 100 pages felt rushed and too easy. He just went away for 30 days and all is well?? hmmm idk man. I just feel like like everything about this was a bit off. The characters felt bland. The story was boring and the pacing and continuity was all over the place and we are severely lacking any meaningful moments that made me really relate to anything that was going on. It all felt a lot like „tried, but not very hard.“ This felt low effort and I know Lauren could have done a better job with this. The story idea itself is great and the potential was there. Maybe Lauren just wanted to be done with this series and start her new story. Overall I think this is a good book and I see why so many really enjoyed and loved it. But if I can take a break for a few days and read a different book before coming back - then that’s a clear sign for me, that I do not care about the book, the story nor the characters at all. Because I’m no multiple books at once gal. I’m still excited for her new release Love Redesigned. I really hope we get the Lauren Asher writing and storytelling again, that I loved in the past. 3
