I read this book in 5 hours and I think that already says a lot about how much I actually liked it. This book is a lot about race and the color of ones skin - I didn’t expect it to go so deep, but am quite glad it did. I am not reading enough books about racism and this book gave me a very good impression of how racism feels to a teenage girl and how other don’t even notice. Quinn struggles a lot with how she is “supposed so be”. She is Black, but has only White friends (her words) and she often feels like she belongs neither here nor there. I totally understood her and felt how much she was struggling with this. The love interest (also Black) helped her to grow into her “Blackness” and learn to live with it, but also embrace the identity that comes with it. I loved how this was displayed in the book and I obviously loved Carter. He is too good to be true - gorgeous, kind and understanding. Who wouldn’t love him? The love story between the two of them is light, but also serious. They have the perfect balance between deep talks and teasing. My personal highlight were the lists that Quinn kept throughout the book about literally everything. The only critique I have is about the displaying of Quinn’s best friend Matt, who happens to be White. That doesn’t define him though. He was her best friend for 10 years and is always there for her and wants to help her with everything. But as soon as Carter appears and helps Quinn to find her “Black Identity” Matt is old news. And why? Because he is White and wouldn’t understand it anyway. And sure, maybe he wouldn’t, but Quinn doesn’t even give her best friend a chance to try and understand her. That was a little bit sad and not perfectly solved in the book. Apart from that this book is light and funny but you also get confronted with some serious issues. I would recommend it!

5⭐️ this book was literally perfection. i loved every second of it. This book was somehow even a wake up call for me. Sometimes i feel like i’m in the wrong being offended or angry at people (when they were LITERALLY being racist), but the scenarios in this book where so similar to things i experienced, that it kind of gave me the validation to express my feelings and keep on telling them what i think, after hearing one of their “jokes”, with no hesitation even if they pull the “you’re too sensitive” card. Idk it simply made me happy after a long time, to finally feel like i’m being seen and those problems finally being recognized as what they are: problems. ANYWAY BACK TO THE BOOK: i loved the characters especially Auden, Livvy and Carter (obviously). Carter and Quinn together is just something else and i’m so happy for her to end up in this friend group of people who understand her and feel what she feels, because that’s just very important. Auden has my heart and so does carter. i think i’ll never get it back but that’s okay. Livvy is so iconic and probably the one i can relate to the most. I think people definitely should read this book, maybe they could understand stuff better, or how to handle it correctly. Or maybe read it just because of a great storyline ? either way would definitely recommend.
