All About Love: New Visions (Bell Hooks Love Trilogy)
von bell hooks
A New York Times bestseller and enduring classic, All About Love is the acclaimed first volume in feminist icon bell hooks' "Love Song to the Nation" trilogy. All About Love reveals what causes a polarized society, and how to heal the divisions that cause suffering. Here is the truth about love, and inspiration to help us instill caring, compassion, and strength in our homes, schools, and workplaces.“The word ‘love’ is most often defined as a noun, yet we would all love better if we used it as a verb,” writes bell hooks as she comes out fighting and on fire in All About Love. Here, at her most provocative and intensely personal, renowned scholar, cultural critic and feminist bell hooks offers a proactive new ethic for a society bereft with lovelessness--not the lack of romance, but the lack of care, compassion, and unity. People are divided, she declares, by society’s failure to provide a model for learning to love.As bell hooks uses her incisive mind to explore the question “What is love?” her answers strike at both the mind and heart. Razing the cultural paradigm that the ideal love is infused with sex and desire, she provides a new path to love that is sacred, redemptive, and healing for individuals and for a nation. The Utne Reader declared bell hooks one of the “100 Visionaries Who Can Change Your Life.” All About Love is a powerful, timely affirmation of just how profoundly her revelations can change hearts and minds for the better.

All About Love offers important and thoughtful reflections on what love truly means beyond romance. bell hooks defines love as an active practice built on care, respect, responsibility, trust, and knowledge, which is a powerful and meaningful perspective. However, while the ideas are valuable, the book can feel repetitive and abstract at times. The writing is more essay-like and theoretical, with few personal stories or concrete examples, which made it hard for me to stay fully engaged. Some chapters repeat similar points, and I often understood the message intellectually rather than emotionally. Overall, All About Love is a thought-provoking book with strong concepts, but it may not resonate with everyone. It’s more a book to reflect on than to enjoy reading, and I think it works best if you’re already interested in philosophical or social discussions about love.
Some pages I just had to reread over and over gain while lthers are so easy to understand. The author shows different views towards the meaning of love. That we should maxbe not focus on the noun but rather on the act of loving. What does love mean for any of us.
I thought I would enjoy this book, but alas, I didn‘t. It was utterly disappointing. I learned more about socialism and Jesus than love. (Doesn‘t mean I‘m not a fan of socialism and Jesus, BUT IT‘S NOT WHAT I READ THIS BOOK FOR) Of course it had a couple of good quotes, but the author took most of those out of other books. The beginning sounded promising, with her telling us that you don’t fall in love, you work for love. But when her live-laugh-love quotes got tiring, her words sounded preaching - but in an unwanted way. „If you feel unloved, just love God!“ is not the message I was reading this book for. But whatever works for the other readers, I guess.
Ein Buch, in dem ich fast auf jeder Seite etwas markiert habe. Bell Hooks betrachtet Liebe aus den verschiedensten Winkeln und ich glaube hier kann jede*r was mitnehmen
I really liked her writing style but content wise this was a whole lot of nothing
